ARS POETICA

The fundamental inspiration behind my creative practice is the process of superimposition. I aim to create layers that function not only on a visual and material level, but also on a semantic one. My paintings are created using mixed media, incorporating shifts in color, rhythm, form, and material, as well as the systems through which these elements connect.

Figures and motifs sometimes emerge clearly, while at other times they appear only as traces or imprints. The individual layers do not erase one another; instead, they continue to exist fragmentarily or transparently. Spots, figures, and their dynamic interplay refer to the presence of intertwined fabrics of space, time, materiality, and memory. As imprints of time, the images convey narratives and emotional states.

I am interested in finding material expressions for these gestures, their abstract forms, and the possibilities of dimensional transformation. The variety of techniques and textures either creates balance or intentionally introduces disharmony.
Layering, therefore, is not merely a technical device or formal ornament, but a complex conceptual framework shaped by time. Examining these superimposed impressions lies at the core of my artistic inquiry.

My name is Réka Janka Molnár, I graduated as an architect in Debrecen, although I have always felt a strong connection to the fine arts. I completed my secondary education at the Ady Endre High School in Debrecen, while at the same time studying drawing fundamentals and developing my visual expression skills at the Ferenc Medgyessy Fine Arts Group.

After graduating from high school, I continued my studies at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Debrecen, majoring in architecture. During my university years, one of my key goals was to harmonize the ways of thinking in fine arts and architecture. I was particularly interested in the graphic representation of spatial elements, the study of different dimensional transformations, and exploring the possibilities inherent in various modes of representation.

As part of the project entitled AUTOPOESIS, we had the opportunity to create artistic works for the BMW Group’s plant in Debrecen. The project also included an exhibition held at the MODEM Centre for Modern and Contemporary Art in Debrecen in April and May 2024.

My painting series Vision (consisting of eight works) was selected for the project and is currently on display at the BMW factory.
